Update on the House

What are they building in there?

There's been a lot going on in the house in the past few weeks. There's a new chandelier and dimmer switch in place. The swingset has been moved to a friend's place for their soon to be child. And a ton of other stuff I just can't remember.

The biggest news is that the floor in Heather's studio is done. We're both very, very sore from all of the bending, kneeling, and squatting to get it done, but as you'll see, it was very much worth it.

As you may remember, we started with this old, blue carpet. On the surface, it didn't look too bad. But we discovered stains on top of stains when we pulled it up. Some had gone through right to the wood underneath. Yuck. Needless to say, the carpets are getting trashed and not getting used in the basement.

Heather did some test painting up here. She'll be using a different color and hopefully painting it solid when we paint 'for real'. Anyway, here's the bare floor.

A close-up. The floor was in pretty decent shape. We only need light sanding to get it ready.

Here we are after applying the stain. The color is Sedona Red and its certainly red! We went back after this and finished along the edges of the boards.

After one coat of poly, they were looking good but definitely needed more.

The final result. Its really not as dark as the this photo nor as light as the one above. Definitely a "need to see in person" type of thing. We'll be adding the paint and then some trim along the floor to finish it off!

Next we'll be doing this same thing to our bedroom. Thankfully, its smaller and we know what we're doing now.
